Textiles of the state of Campeche
The traditional dress of the Mayan communities of flowers in Campeche consists of a very white hipil in which the embroidery of flowers in cross stitch stands out. It takes up to five months to make a garment.
As a good part of the customs of the Mayan culture, the garment gives a certain hierarchy. The people of Campeche inherited the tradition of embroidery from their ancestors. It was the women who were given that duty. The hipil today is an essential part of their clothing. The word derives from Nahuatl "huipil". The hipil is made of white cloth. A white background or fustian is added, whose border is also embroidered in white threads.
